Movie Review - Ye Maaya Chesave (4/5)

Story:
Karthik (Nag Chaitanya) falls in love with Jessie (Samantha) at first sight. He is a Hindu, Telugu, and 22. She is a Christian, Malyalee, and 24. The story is about how he makes his love take a grand step into marriage.

Analysis:
Loved it. Beautiful. Like the heroine said "lite". Emotions used well.

Jessie's voice in the movie was AMAZING. Fell in Love with the voice (and I'm a girl).

People who are already have a partner in their life, who they are not entirely ecstatic with might not enjoy this movie as much. As their know such relationship inside out. However, for those who are still fantasizing about their future partner, this movie is a true delight and possibly misleading, so don't take it to heart and just watch it as a movie. For days after watching the movie, it is hard to get the "brilliance of the love story" out of your mind.

Nag Chaitanya and Samantha (especially) are perfect for the role. However, my only concern is...because many shots were taken up close, Nag Chaitanya's eyes are really distracting. Samantha looked younger than Chaitu; it is understandable that just because you are older doesn't mean you have to look older, but it is just a thought, since the girl being older than the guy is one of the conflicts, it wasn't somehow "complete/convincing". But just wondering how it would have been different if Jessie did look older than Karthik.

Good how Gautham Menon introduced religion and age as conflicts and worked off of emotions and decision making of the couple as the main plot of the movie.

AR. Rehman songs were good with good picturization.

Comments on the tamil version: Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya

Main Cast: Simbhu and Trisha
Very glad that relatively new actors are choose for the Telugu version. In the tamil version, it is harder to see Jessie or Karthik, insteat it is easier to see Simbhu and Trisha. In the Telugu version, because of "new" actors, it is easier to enjoy the movie.

Simbhu was horrible for the role. Trisha was barely okay. Should have chosen new actors for the movie. Nag Chaitanya's acting is much better than Simbhu. Same with Samantha over Trisha.

Story Change: Jessie gets married to someone else. Karthik imagines the entire scene after seeing Jessie on the bridge for his movie. Karthik and Jessie shake hands and go their seperate ways after watching Karthik's movie in the end.

Tragedy - just the was Tamilians like it (no offense).

Hindi Remake Thought: If this movie is going to be remade in hindi, please pick new actors or not well know faces so that the audience will see the characters of Jessie and Karthik on screen rather than judge the performances of the actors.

Bottom Line: Must Watch for Singles. For non-singles, watch it with a open heart. And Kids, don't bother its not an entertainer for you, you'll be bored.

Gautham Menon - The Director - Analysis

His previous Telugu movies:
Cheli (Madhavan, Reema Sen, Abbas)
Gharshana (Venkatesh, Asin)
Raghavan (Kamal Hassan, Jyothika, Kamilinee Mukharjee)
Drohi (Sarath and Jyothika) - I didn't Watch
Surya s/o Krishnan (Surya, Simran, Sameera Reddy, Divya)
Ye Maaya Chesave (Nag Chaithanya, Samantha)
All the above movies were originally directed in Tamil as well.

The emotion of love in his movies, Cheli, Gharshana and Surya s/o Krishnan, are good. Ye Maaya Chesave is just perfect. Raghavan is too disturbing to watch, especially for girls. Drohi was just a genre not really accepted by Telugu people.
