Movie Review - Vedam (3.5/5)

Note: I am neither a fan of Allu Arjun, Manchu Manoj or Anushka; however, I do like Arjun’s dances and Manoj’s energy and dimples. I am telling you this so that you know how biased or non-biased the content below might be.

The movie has an amazing ending; it is exactly how a good movie should end. Narration of the story is amazingly gripping; nothing too dragging. Narrating five stories can be a hard task – taking time to completely develop them and the characters. Krish did a good job making a complete thorough movie.

However, There are some flaws as well. All five stories are not given equal importance. Allu Arjun’s story is narrated and entertained much more than the others. If you notice, Arjun’s story has comedy, suspense, action, sentiment, romance and what not highlighted in it. On the other hand, Manoj, Anushka and Manoj Bajpai’s stories were limited in emotions. Especially in the case of Manoj, there is some romance, action and nothing more. Anushka’s story has some comedy, action and sentiment. Bajpai’s story contains only sentiment and action. Fifth story of Nagayya is complete sentiment with some action. Action is something common in all five stories, which brought all characters in the five stories together.

The difference in the importance of the stories brought a difference in characters, which made some of the stories less interesting than others at times. For example, both Manojs' stories were a little tiring and boring. Scenes involving Anushka were tedious too, except those involving comedy. Nagayya’s story was just plain 'are you kidding me' type of story. There is a message from each story, but Krish should have give more importance to the other stories too, besides just Allu Arjun’s story.

Another movie with similar narration style is the Hindi movie “Salaam-e-Ishq”. Each and every story in the movie is just as gripping and interesting as the other, unlike in Vedam. Some sort of interest like that should have been created for this movie. Not implying that Vedam is a bit boring or dragging at times, but all I can remember coming out of the theater is Allu Arjun and that’s it.

Moving on, there are some similarities between Gamyam and Vedam. One is how the characters don’t change their appearances much. Also, the songs fit in and are not out of the blue. Another comparison between Gamyam and Vedam is the consistency of the characters. He introduces them with a negative touch, makes them amicable and well you know what happened – I don’t want to spoil it for people that didn’t watch Vedam yet.

Overall: Not for everyone, but an amazing movie for Tollywood.

Comment on Allu Arjun’s “Inferiority Complex”:
After watching Vedam, I felt that Allu Arjun has every right to be called the “hero” of the movie. His story is the one highlighted the most. His character goes through a life-time of changes. Other characters go through some changes as well, but they are not show as much as Allu Arjun’s character. For example, the decisions of Manchu Manoj and Anushka are all of a sudden. Krish doesn’t really show us the emotion in their change as much as Allu Arjun’s; therefore, his role is above all other roles.

Again, I’m not fan of Allu Arjun.
